About the Role
The Head of Engineering will serve as a strategic leader responsible to bridge the gap between initial New Product Introduction (NPI) and full-scale commercial excellence.
You will lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization to optimize Time-to-Market (TTM), maximize manufacturing yields, and ensure the highest standards of regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
The role has integrated firsthand responsibility of R&D downstream to ensuring optimal TTM and Manufacturing Engineering, to secure process performance, efficiency and ultimately the high quality of the product and processes realized by adopting lean six sigma principles where required. Additionally, the role will oversee the supporting functions of Maintenance, Calibration, Machine & equipment and ensuring the continuous alignment and support to core departments to achieve company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the cross functional engineering team of the company, including R&D downstream/ME/MNT/CAL/M&E/Toolshop providing direction, mentorship, and performance management to meet company objectives.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with business objectives, ensuring operational excellence, continuous improvement ensuring high quality standards that meet regulatory requirements.
R&D Downstream
- Leads the transition of New Product Introductions (NPI) from downstream R&D into full-scale production, prioritizing (TTM) and design continuity.Liaise as technical Engineer leader in the product development with R&D upstream.
- Oversee the rigorous execution of PFMEA, product/process validations and the management of production deviations, including second source, to ensure total alignment with global standards.
Machine&Equipment – Toolshop
- Provide strategic direction to the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) and Toolshop teams, ensuring specialized tooling and equipment are aligned with production goals.
Manufacturing Engineering
- Oversee the design and implementation of the manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient production flow, highest level of yield/OEE, minimizing waste and optimizing cycle time to ensure productivity level as per industry golden standards.
Industrial Engineering & Calibration
- Manage the industrial engineering function, focusing on improving production processes and ensuring cost-effectiveness, LBM reduction and cost control.
- Oversee the calibration and maintenance of production equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards.
CAPA/NC & Process Deviation
- Lead the design and execution of new methods to optimize production processes and improve product yield and quality.
- Investigate and resolve production deviations, applying root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and implement corrective actions.
- Effectively Cover leadership position in the production performance committee, CAPA Board, NPI, Management review, Auditing, Client visits.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Lead the Maintenance and Calibration Manager in developing and implementing PM strategies to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime while ensuring that quality and regulatory compliance are met.
- Improve and monitor OEE of production lines, balloon forming and critical equipment
- Oversee the maintenance team in troubleshooting and repairing equipment to support production goals.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, leading lean six sigma initiatives that enhance productivity, reduce costs, and maintain high standards of safety and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process innovation and implement best practices across departments and facilities.
Qualifications & Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, within the medical device in high regulated industry, preferably in Endovascular catheter manufacturing.
- Proven experience in TTM, process validation, equipment design and building, equipment maintenance, calibration, OEE optimization and industrial engineering.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in Medical Device R&D and Operations, overseeing engineering managers, engineers and technicians.
- Expertise in mechanical systems, calibration processes, line assembly methods, plastic transformation and industrial methods.
- Proficient in data analysis and statistical tools (e.g., DOE, Six Sigma, Minitab, ERP).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to solve problems or to improving processes or products.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, define workable priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellence in time management and conflicts resultions.
